Nina Torres, she/her

Black College Success

Nina Torres is the Academic Advisor for the Black College Success Initiative. She ensures that students receive information, resources, and support that prepares them for college and career. Previously, Nina worked for Community Coalition, leading the academic, college, and career readiness work for the South Central Youth Empowered thru Action (SCYEA) program. In addition, Torres has worked and volunteered for various non-profits and education organizations such as College Track, Lakin Street Youth Services, TheDream.US, and Fulfillment Fund.

Torres earned her Master of Arts degree in Human Rights Education at the University of San Francisco. She was awarded the Hilary Williams Ford award at the University for her commitment to social responsibility. Torres also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the California State University, Los Angeles, in Political Science with a minor in Communications. Currently, she is a Director at Large Board Member for the Cal State LA Alumni Association and the Alumni Representative for the University Student Union.

Her favorite book is Brave Not Perfect. The book is by Reshma Saujani, who is the Founder and CEO of Girls Who Code.

Torres enjoys baking, swimming, and traveling.
