Gerrel D. Sayles is an Academic Advisor for the Black College Success Initiative (BSCI). He strives to make a positive impact with BCSI students serving as a relatable vessel of support that motivates students as they navigate through their journey.
Before joining LAPF in September 2022, Sayles worked as an Outreach and Recruitment Specialist at Long Beach City College (LBCC), as a College Advisor with the University of Southern California (USC), and as a Coach with the City of Long Beach. Sayles has served as a mentor in these roles while building community with the youth, families, and college access programs to support student success holistically.
Sayles is currently a graduate student at California State University Fullerton, where he is set to receive his master’s degree in higher education in spring 2023. Sayles received his bachelor’s degree in sociology, focusing on group relations at CSU Long Beach.
Sayles has shown active leadership by supporting the BIPOC Student Belonging Inativie and the Male Success Initiative at LBCC while serving as one of the Public Relations and Outreach Coordinators in his grad program. Sayles’ passion for education and supporting students throughout their academic journey has motivated him to pursue roles in which he can positively impact his community.
Sayles has the Game of Thrones books on his Christmas wishlist, but in the meantime, he enjoys grabbing some popcorn while going to the movies, playing games, and watching the Lakers and Eagles.
