Derek Reddicks is originally from the Pacific Northwest (Washington State). He moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs program at the University of Southern California. Before moving to Los Angeles, Derek worked at the Seattle Colleges in multiple roles. As the first Seattle Promise staff member, he worked with the high school principals and key administrators to create the new Seattle Promise program. 

In addition to working with the Seattle Promise, Derek helped develop the Men of Color mentoring program at South Seattle College to help increase the matriculation rate of Black and Latinx male students. While working as an Outreach Specialist and Academic Advisor he has helped countless students navigate the college application process and strive toward achieving their academic goals.

Derek’s mission as a Student Affairs Practitioner is to increase the number of Black and nontraditional students who successfully matriculate through the K-16 education system. He has over 17 years of experience working in higher education and educational nonprofits.

 He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from Eastern Washington University and a Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs from the University of Southern California. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, BBQ-ing/grilling, and playing spades & dominoes.
