We Say Thank You to our Graduating Interns

For the past few months, college students, and recent graduates (as of last Friday), Ivan and Kelisha have been lending LA Promise Fund their talents as Communications Team interns. LA Promise Fund and the Communications Team want to extend a tremendous thank you to both of them as they soon will head off on their own adventures.

MEET IVAN

Ivan grew up in Boyle Heights right outside of downtown. He’s a California State Dominguez Hills graduate. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising & Public Relations. He has been helping the LA Promise Fund Communications Team by taking memorable photos and video, and editing these materials to make a presence on various social media channels. Aside from all of this, Ivan has a passion for being creative and helping the community LA Promise Fund serves.

Q: Where are you heading after graduation?

A: I’m headed to the JW Marriott hotel in LA Live.

Q: Tell me about yourself.

A: I’m from a traditional Mexican household, like Coco. Except for our family, we all worked at a restaurant called El Mercadito. Student life is definitely what you make of it. It is a fun and unique experience, where you learn alot about yourself and others. But it can be tough at times because no one is going to be telling you what to do, and what is due, so surround yourself with people with the same goals as you and most importantly get involved!

Q: What are your goals for the future?

A: My goal is to make movie trailers and one day be the president of a college. I didn’t know trailer editing was a position until I went to college and they exposed me to that world. I also want to give back to the schools so they can give back to the community. Education is so important and the key to a better life.

Q: Why did you volunteer for LAPF?

A: I chose to volunteer for LAPF because of how creative and driven they are. Their mission to empower kids through all these education programs is like no other and I wanted to support that mission in the best way I knew how.

Q: What has been your experience at LAPF?

A: My experience at LAPF has been great. It felt more like a passion project than actual work. The day I got to meet the team and sit down with some of the members I was so grateful because I was shown that there is more to life if you push yourself and surround yourself with the right people.

Q: Use 3 words to describe what graduating from college feels like.

A: Rewarding. Bittersweet. GREAT.

MEET KELISHA

A Long Beach native, Kelisha is a graduate from California State University Dominguez Hills. She’s earning her Bachelor’s in Public Relations and Marketing. She has been helping LA Promise Fund and the Communications Team by writing engaging and informative material for LAPF’s website. Kelisha truly values LAPF’s mission and has demonstrated hard work ethic as she holds two part-time jobs, studies, and interns for LAPF.

Q: Where are you heading after graduation?

A: After I graduate, I intend to stay on staff with LBUSD until I find a full-time position in my field of interest.

Q: Give me a brief background about yourself.

A: I’ve devoted my adult life to uplifting and helping the young people in her neighborhood. I currently hold two part-time jobs. In my position at Parks and Recreation, I am in charge of an after-school program that provides at-risk adolescents with homework assistance as well as a secure space to hang out. In a program for adolescents with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, I also work in the classroom with high school students who are at risk and participating in it.

Q: What are your goals for the future?

A: My goal for the future is to work in the community while also finding a position in the field of public relations and marketing. In order to continue serving the community, I would like to find a career in the field of community relations or partnerships.

Q: Why did you volunteer for LAPF?

A: Because I value the work and education LAPF provides to the community, I have chosen to volunteer there. LAPF offers youngsters fantastic possibilities to succeed as well.

Q: What has been your experience at LAPF.

A: With the assistance of Jade (Director of Communications) and Stefanie (Communications Manager), my experience working with LAPF has shown more tools and abilities that I need to be successful in the communication industry.Their judgments have demonstrated a number of abilities that I did not pick up until I was really doing the internship.

Q: Use 3 words to describe what graduating from college feels like.

A: Determination, Powerful, Unstoppable

Again, LA Promise Fund and the Communications Team want to thank Ivan and Kelisha for all of their hard work and efforts. We wish them every success and congratulate them on their educational achievements.
