23 Jun Russell Westbrook Celebrates Westbrook Academy’s Class of 2026
2026 Graduates Leave with College Opportunities, Scholarships, and a 100% Graduation Rate.
NBA superstar, philanthropist, and Westbrook Academy partner Russell Westbrook joined students, families, and educators to celebrate the graduation of the Westbrook Academy Class of 2026 and to recognize a group of seniors whose academic achievements reflect the school’s commitment to preparing young people for success in college, career, and life.
The Class of 2026 achieved a 100% graduation rate and has earned acceptances to a wide range of institutions, including the University of California, California State University, and private universities across the country.
Among the class’s accomplishments, valedictorian Sonny Lopez was awarded the prestigious Posse Scholarship, a full-tuition merit scholarship awarded to high school students with exceptional leadership and academic potential.

Westbrook addressed graduates during the ceremony, encouraging them to embrace the next chapter of their journey with confidence and purpose.
“When we launched Westbrook Academy, the goal was simple: create opportunities and make sure young people had access to the support, education, and resources they deserve,” said Russell Westbrook. “Seeing these graduates walk across the stage today proves what’s possible when students believe in themselves and have a community that believes in them, too. I’m incredibly proud of this class and excited to see what they accomplish next.”

Founded through a partnership between Russell Westbrook and LA Promise Fund, Westbrook Academy was created to expand access to high-quality education, leadership development opportunities, and athletic programs for students in South and Southeast Los Angeles.
The Class of 2026 represents the continued success of that vision. Graduates leave Westbrook Academy with college options, career pathways, and the skills needed to thrive in their next chapter.
“Our graduates have demonstrated resilience, determination, and a commitment to excellence,” said Jason Marin, Chief of Schools at Westbrook Academy. “We are grateful for Russell’s continued investment in our students and for the example he sets through his commitment to education and opportunity. The success of this graduating class reflects what is possible when students are surrounded by a community that believes in their potential.”
Westbrook Academy is operated and managed by LA Promise Fund, which is celebrating 20 Years of transforming educational outcomes for students and families across Los Angeles.
