Rachelle McClendon-Alexander


Director of Schools

Rachelle McClendon-Alexander joined the West Adams Preparatory team as the Director of Learning and Teaching in 2013 to support the growth and development of West Adams Preparatory High School.

Previously, she was the founding Principal of Ánimo Locke II College Preparatory Academy, a Green Dot Public School. In that capacity, she served as the instructional leader, overseeing teachers and evaluations, planning and executing staff professional development, as well as leading parent nights, student clubs, and standardized testing.  During her tenure at Locke II, McClendon-Alexander led the school’s drastic improvements in student attendance, and retention rates toward enhanced graduation rates.  She pioneered and launched a school-wide advisory and in-school academic intervention program for failing students.

Prior to that position, McClendon-Alexander was the founding Assistant Principal of Ánimo South Los Angeles Charter High School with Green Dot Public Schools. Before joining GreenDot, she was a middle school science teacher for nine years for Los Angeles Unified School District. McClendon-Alexander entered the education arena as a Teach For America corps member in 1995. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology Pre-Med, from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA.  She received her Professional Clear Teaching Credential from California State University at Dominquez Hills and an Administrative Credential and Masters of Science degree in Educational Administration from National University. McClendon-Alexander is deeply committed to the transformation of education in Los Angeles, specifically in urban areas. She has dedicated her professional life to providing a quality, exceptional educational experience one student at a time.
