Principal, LA Promise Charter High School #1
Gina Lutcher is entering her 18th year in education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Education from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She later pursued her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Long Beach and then her Master of Science and Administrative Credential in Educational Leadership from Pepperdine University.
Lutcher began her career as a K-3 Special Education teacher in a self-contained classroom, teaching students with developmental delays. She continued working with the special needs population, conducting life skills courses to adults, also with developmental delays. Later she moved to working in the Inglewood Unified School District, serving as a 6th grade teacher at La Tijera K-8 School. After teaching 6th grade, she became an instructional coach at Warren Lane K-8 School. Eight years ago, she embarked on her journey as a school administrator, serving scholars in the Watts/ South L.A area.
Throughout the years, Lutcher has served on a variety of school committees, forged school-community partnerships, and has developed programs promoting college and career readiness. Her involvement in these activities have directly positively impacted the lives of the scholars she has served.
While Lutcher was born and raised in the community where she currently works, she was never educated in the community. She is committed to providing her community with an education and with experiences that rival those of more affluent communities. Her goal is to help students recognize their potential and assist them in understanding their role in helping to create a more positive community.
Lutcher believes keeping the school atmosphere positive is the key to success, as well as proving ongoing support to staff, parents, and students. She believes that teamwork is the ultimate way a school can be successful in helping scholars reach their full potential. The African Proverb, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child,” is her guiding mantra as she leads her school to success.
