Parent Engagement Coordinator 

Virginia Cortez works with the Director of Parent Engagement to encourage parent participation, lead workshops and trainings, and coordinate parent engagement events. She is also involved in the LA Promise Fund Parent College program, which encourages parents in a series of trainings that builds capacity to best support their child’s academic success.

Cortez joined the LA Promise Fund in August of 2017 as an Americorps VISTA. Before working with the LA Promise Fund, as an undergrad, Cortez tutored charter and LAUSD students in math through UCLA Bruincorps.

In June of 2017, Cortez graduated from UC Los Angeles with a B.A. in History and a minor in Spanish.

Cortez’s favorite books are Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories by Sandra Cisneros and Oh, The Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss. She enjoys listening to music, playing soccer, and going on spontaneous road trips.
