Assistant Principal for LA’s Promise Middle School #1
Dr. Rochelle Tawiah began her service with the LA Promise Fund in 2016. Tawiah has been an educator for over 19 years. She began her career at an early age while she worked as an Instructional Assistant for LAUSD during her undergraduate studies. While working as a Substitute Teacher, Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal in Juvenile Court Schools and Charter Schools, she has developed the skills needed for an organization that is holistic in regards to meeting the needs of the whole child. Tawiah believes strongly in developing and sustaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community.
As Principal of one of the 3 juvenile court schools in Los Angeles County, Tawiah led her school team with acquiring a 6-year Accreditation. Tawiah strongly believes that Restorative Justice is paramount for all students, more specifically students of color and those who reside in low socio-economic communities.
During her tenure as a Charter School administrator, she dramatically reduced suspensions and successfully spearheaded a School-Wide Positive Intervention Support Program. Her research in STEM Integration at the Middle School Level, prepared her to serve as an Instructional Leader and coach for Math and Science Teachers.
Tawiah is very passionate and dedicated to changing the lives of children in underserved communities. Her favorite books are the Bible and See. Life. Different. by Pastor Joel Holm. Her favorite poem is, “The Rose That Grew from Concrete” by Tupac Shakur.
