Founding Principal of LA’s Promise Charter High School #1
Qiana O’Leary has been in education for 15 years. She has previously served as a secondary classroom teacher, and the last five years she served as a school administrator. In this capacity she was responsible for overseeing school activities and events, AVID/IB programming, state testing, Title I programs, professional development, and school safety. In addition, she has coordinated district-wide initiatives that focused on parent engagement, PBIS, and project-based learning.
O’Leary obtained her master’s degree in education and administrative credential from UCLA and she is currently enrolled as a doctoral student at Brandman University. As a Los Angeles native, it is her strong desire to model the educational outcomes she believes that all students have the potential to attain.
When asked about joining LA Promise Fund, O’Leary responded, “I’m honored to join the LA Promise Fund team to replicate their remarkable efforts in delivering quality education to students in South Los Angeles. I believe the heart of any educational program begins with the heart of the people, and the folks at LA Promise Fund continue to demonstrate their hearts and commitment to serving inner city youth. For these reasons and others, we are a great fit.”
O’Leary’s favorite book is Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and her motto is “Your dreams and your choices will determine your destiny.” In her spare time, O’Leary loves traveling, reading, and being an involved and supportive mom.
