Peter Horton works to recruit and support students engaging in mentorship, internship, and extracurricular programs, including The Intern Project and Girls Build LA.
Horton joined LA Promise Fund in August of 2017, as an Americorps VISTA. Before taking this position, he worked as a high school teacher in Aberdeen, MS (pop. 5,600), where he taught American Literature and AP Language and Composition.
Horton earned a BA in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College in New Mexico, where he was recognized with an award for Sustained Academic Excellence. After attending St. John’s, he joined the Mississippi Teacher Corps, receiving an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi while serving as a classroom teacher.
Horton enjoys many forms of traveling — hikes, bike rides, road trips, flights, ferries, etc. An avid reader, he has many favorite books, and the most recent addition of these is Fortress of Solitude, by Jonathan Lethem.
