Community Partnership Coordinator
Jennifer Herrera works with the Associate Director of Programs to create and support afterschool programs at LA Promise Fund’s charter schools and partner schools.
Herrera joined the LA Promise Fund in August of 2017 as an Americorps VISTA. Before working with the LA Promise Fund, Herrera worked at A Place Called Home as a summer associate within the educational services department, where she continues to volunteer. While still in school, Herrera worked at Cornell University’s Public Service Center, where she worked as a Center Programs Specialist for two years.
In May 2017, Herrera graduated with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations and a minor in Law and Society from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She received recognition for her work with the Public Service Center due to her dedication to creating more connections between Cornell university students and local non-profits. Days after graduating, Herrera began working as a Americorps VISTA and continues to do so to this day.
In her spare time, she greatly enjoys traveling to new cities and hopes to eventually road trip through every state of America. If she’s not traveling, Herrera will likely be found in a coffee shop sipping on an Americano and reading one of her two favorite books, Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald or How Should a Person Be? by Sheila Heti. Herrera credits her mentors at Cornell for encouraging her and nurturing a life dedicated to public service. She is committed to improving the underserved communities of Los Angeles through access to education and resources and hopes to return to school in the future to study education policy.
